We are a production brewery with a retail area that sells beers by the 64 oz. growler or 20 oz. bottle to go. “Fresh Traditional Country Ales To Go”. Our beers can be found on tap at Homer’s fine eating and drinking establishments.

The Brat Stop

During the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day) we operate The Brat Stop,
located adjacent to the brewery, offering locally produced brats, vegetarian brats and a variety of beer related snacks with a specialty of Queen Edna’s Southern  Fried Pies in a beer garden atmosphere.

Our History

Homer Brewing Company began by the inspiration of the renaissance of beer throughout the U.S. and the will to carve out a livelihood in Homer. Brought together through the original homebrew cooperative, the Q & Q Guild, Steve McCasland, Lasse Holmes & Karen Berger combined their talents and love of beer to create Homer Brewing Company. Opened September 21, 1996 as Homer’s first commercial brewery, originally housed in a space of 23’x29’, brewing with a recycled, re-fabricated 3-beer-barrell system, considered “micro” in the industry, HBC grew to produce over 1000 bbls. a year with this equipment.

In February of 2001, adversity struck when the lease on the building  was not renewed and the brewery faced going out of business. Thanks to the cooperation and encouragement of our local bank & astounding local support, we persevered and purchased the permanent home for the brewery, re-opening in August of 2001 at it’s current location on Lake Shore Drive.  In 2005 we installed a refurbished 7-barrel brewing system that has increased efficiency in the brewhouse.  

Open every day with the exception of a few high holidays, you can find us here beginning at noon. Hours vary slightly by season, but you can bet on noon-5, 7 days a week. We don’t give tours like you would find in a large brewery, but when you walk in the door, you will find yourself “on tour”. The brewhouse is open to see the workings of the brewers as you select your beer or shop around the retail area. We are always happy to answer any questions you have about the process or general local information.
